City Lights For this assignment I have chosen the movie ‘City Lights’ which has been directed by Charlie Chaplin. The movie has a very simple and chronological narrative. It is a love story full of upheavals between a blind girl and a poor man. The narrative can also be referred to as that of typical classical Hollywood movie. One of the main motives of the movie was to entertain the audience. In this silent film the use of the camera work is done in a nuanced manner. The acrobatic movements and funny action of the protagonists comes as a big contrast. This seemingly comic timing playing along when a serious issue is being shown is one of the important features of Charlie Chaplin’s movies. The underlying storyline plays a very important role in the progression the narrative which is both subtle and evokes emotion. The cinematography with the special use of three-point lighting method also adds to the narrative and story-telling methods (Glassberg, 2020).
